India reinforces Seychelles anti-piracy operations with new aircraft donations
The Government of India has pledged a donation of 3 new air surveillance assets to the Seychelles; 1 Dornier surveillance aircraft and 2 Chetak helicopters.

Seychelles gets its first public University
The University, the first independent, non-profit making higher education institution in the Seychelles, was formally established on the 17th September 2009 at a special Statehouse ceremony, which was attended by the President of the Republic of Seychelles Mr. James Michel. The ceremony included an exchange of formal documents between the Minister of Education, Mr. Bernard Shamlaye and the Chairman of Seychelles University Foundation, Dr. Rolph Payet. Fifty-five Seychellois students will be starting classes soon at the newly founded University of Seychelles.

Sychelles to join 28 countries for Indian ocean-wide tsunami drill set for 14th october 2009
Seychelles will join over 28 other countries around the Indian Ocean Rim as a participant in a mock tsunami scenario during 14 October 2009. The purpose of this Indian Ocean-wide exercise is to increase preparedness, test warning systems, evaluate response capabilities in each country and improve coordination throughout the region.

Seychelles and the USA sign Piracy Agreement
The government of Seychelles has signed a Transfer of Suspected Pirates Agreement with the United States of America at the Ministrty of Foreign Affairs, today the 14th July, as part of Seychelles’ regional leadership in the fight against piracy.

Seychelles government rejects allegations that ‘the islands have also become popular with pirates’
Seychelles has 1.4 million square kilometres of ocean as part of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and 115 islands, and there is no evidence that the islands are being used by pirates or frequented by pirates in the way that the paper suggests. Seychelles immediate territorial waters are safe, and there have been no pirate attacks within this area. However the Seychelles’ EEZ has been threatened by piracy on numerous occasions; it covers a vast expanse of water.

UAE AIDS Seychelles anti-piracy infrastructure
The Government of the United Arab Emirates has signed an agreement with the Government of Seychelles to fund the construction of a new Seychelles Coast Guard base on Ile Perseverance, in a project worth 15 million US dollars.
