Gabon: André Mba sought coup support from Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon…

Francis Sala Ngouah Beaud, a journalist and former member of Andre Mba Obame’s (who came in second in the August 30 election) campaign team, in an interview over the weekend on Gabonese national television, claimed that the violence that rocked Port-Gentil after the announcement of presidential results were “inevitable” and that the ex-presidentail candidate had sought to destabilise the country with the help of mercenaries from Equatorial Guinea. Sunday, Malabo “vehemently denied” any “interference” and “any attempt at destabilising” Gabon, and called the charges “lies pure and simple”.

Gabon: A Bongo family-run Constitutional court to rule on electoral fraud

A deadline set by the Gabonese Constitutional Court to gather electoral fraud complaints from opposition candidates, after the August 31 presidential election, ended Saturday. The court now has a period of one month to rule on whether alleged electoral discrepancies would affect the outcome of the election. Critics have insisted that the procedure has little chance of success, considering the President of the Court’s personal relationship with the Bongo family, and that the candidates are entertaining useless hopes. Opposition leader, opponent Andre Mba Obame, meanwhile, is already looking towards the future.

Gabon: United opposition leaders put pressure on Constitutional Court

The Gabonese opposition Thursday demanded the country’s Constitutional Court to annul the August 30 presidential election, alleging widespread irregularities. They also plan to take a group of electoral officials, who were in charge of some local polling stations during the elections, to court.

Gabon: Presidential election vote recount begins

Gabon’s Constitutional Court Tuesday embarked on a vote re-count in the presence of opposition candidates who complained of fraud and rigging, during the August 30 presidential election. The decision was announced Saturday by Marie Madeleine Mborantsuo, the president of the court.

Gabon: Court confirms Ali Bongo as late President Omar Bongo’s successor

After a contentious election marathon, the election of Ali Bongo as president of the Republic of Gabon was confirmed Monday night by the country’s Constitutional Court. Ali Bongo, presidential candidate for the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) has, thus, formally succeeded his father, Omar Bongo Ondimba, who passed away in Spain last June.

Freemason Presidents in Africa: Ali Bongo ordained Grand Master of Gabon

The grand master of the National Grand Lodge of France (GLNF) installed Ali Bongo as the head of Gabonese Freemasonry a couple of weeks ago. The title was, until June this year, held by the former President Omar Bongo. About one thousand influential politicians are involved in Freemasonry in Gabon. Just like his father, Ali Bongo is expected to mobilize the Masonic network in order to establish his legitimacy and authority in Gabon and the world.

Suspension of six newspapers in Gabon condemned

The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the suspension of six private newspapers by the government-controlled media-monitoring body, the National Communications Council, in Gabon. The council announced the suspensions, which range from one to three months, on Tuesday evening on state-run TV. The papers have been suspended for “violating the ethics of journalism” and “inciting ethnic divisions” according to local reports.

Gabon-France: Ali Bongo’s visit to help restore France’s image?

Newly elected Gabonese President, Ali Bongo Ondimba, will be on an official visit to France, Friday, and will be conferring wih French President, Nicolas Sarkozy. The two are expected to review relations between the two countries. The visit is essential to restore the image of France among disgruntled Gabonese, who have accused France of a murky France-Afrique collaboration, among other subjects.
