The doyen of judges in the financial hub of Paris, Françoise Desset, has ordered a judicial inquiry into the luxury property bought by three African heads of state in France. She concluded that a complaint launched by Transparency International (TI) last December, was admissible. The Paris prosecutor, who announced in early April that he would oppose such a decision, has four days left to file an appeal. For TI, this victory marks an important step.

Congo: Election results known ahead of time

Despite protests from the opposition, presidential elections in Congo, Sunday, was relatively peaceful as a result of some 17 000 security personnel ordered to patrol the length and breath of the country. Congo elections: Denis Sassou Nguesso, wins by a “controversial” landslide

Provisional results of the July 12 Congolese presidential elections were made public Wednesday. Denis Sassou Nguesso, outgoing head of state won by a landslide, with 78.61% of the total votes cast. Mathias Dzone, a radical opposition leader who is also considered as Sassou Nguesso’s main rival, gained only 2.30% of the total votes cast, according to figures announced by the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

Paris: New step in “ill-gotten gains” scandal involving 3 African leaders

Angola, DRC and Congo deport illegal immigrants

Thousands of Congolese have been deported from Angola this year. The Republic of Congo has also deported DRC nationals from its territory.
